For tree service contractors

No lead fees. Nothing owed on a lost bid.

GivingStump charges tree service contractors a commission on jobs they win, and nothing else. Joining, seeing jobs and bidding are free, with no subscription and no monthly minimum.

The first 50 contractors to sign up get 5% on won jobs, locked for 3 years.

Everyone else pays 8%, and so does a founding contractor once those 3 years are up.

How the billing works

  1. 1

    You bid for free

Homeowners post the jobs. Seeing a job and placing a bid cost you nothing, whether you win or lose.

  2. 2

The homeowner awards the job and pays

When a homeowner picks your bid, they pay its amount at checkout. GivingStump holds the payment while you do the work.

  3. 3

You finish and mark the job complete

The payment is released to your connected Stripe account when the homeowner confirms the work is done, or automatically after 7 days, counted from when you marked it complete, if no dispute is open.

  4. 4

Your commission comes out of that payment

The 5% or 8% is taken out before the rest is released to you. Nothing else is charged to you.

One completed job

Here is the money on one completed job, as it actually moved. It is one job, not an average or a forecast.

The first job, start to finish

A $1,200 removal in Great Falls. $1,140 went to the crew.

A homeowner posted a tree removal. A local crew bid $1,200. GivingStump held the money while they did the work, and released it the day the homeowner confirmed it was done. Our cut was $60 — charged only because they won it.

What a homeowner can send you

A homeowner can circle the tree they want gone on their own photo, and measure it from their phone. Both are optional — the app says so on the screen — and today almost nobody does it. The Great Falls job above arrived as three photos and no measurements. When someone does use it, the height, trunk and spread ride along with the job.

The photo step walks them through the whole tree from far enough back, how a truck would get in, and the base of the trunk — the three a bid is hardest to make without. The more of it they cover, the fewer jobs you drive out to.

Create your free account

Free, and no card. You can bid the day you sign up — connecting a payout account and a quick check that your business is real come before a homeowner can hire you, and both can wait until after you have bid.

Where the jobs are

Our coverage is deepest in the Washington, DC metro area, where we launched. When a job is posted where no contractor on GivingStump is close enough to get the alert, we look up local tree crews near it so we can invite them to bid. We can't promise that any job will get a bid.

Questions about paying

What do I pay when I lose a bid?

$0. A bid that loses costs you nothing, and so does seeing the job and placing the bid. GivingStump charges a commission on a job you win, taken out of that job’s payment, and nothing on any other job.

Does GivingStump charge per lead?

No. There is no charge for a job alert, for seeing a job or for placing a bid, and no subscription or monthly minimum. On pay-per-lead platforms the charge is for the lead itself. On GivingStump the charge is a commission on work you win, and nothing on work you don’t.

How much is the commission?

The first 50 contractors to sign up get 5% on won jobs, locked for 3 years. Everyone else pays 8%, and so does a founding contractor once those 3 years are up. The 3 years run from your signup date.

When does the homeowner pay, and when do I get paid?

The homeowner pays the amount of your bid at checkout when they award you the job, and nothing is added on their side. GivingStump holds that payment while you do the work. It is released to your connected Stripe account when the homeowner confirms the work is done, or automatically after 7 days, counted from when you mark the job complete, if no dispute is open. Your commission is taken out before the rest is released to you.

What happens to the payment if there is a dispute?

While a dispute is open the payment is not released, including by the automatic release after 7 days. GivingStump reviews the dispute and resolves it, which can mean releasing the payment to you or refunding the homeowner.

Do I need a card or a bank account to bid?

No. Joining and bidding are free and need no card. Before a homeowner can award you a job, your GivingStump verification must be approved and your Stripe payout account must be set up to receive payouts. A job over $5,000 also needs Premium Verified status.
