Delete some or all of your data without closing your account

If you would like to remove specific personal data without deleting your account (for example, removing uploaded photos, clearing your message history, or removing your stored payment method), email privacy@givingstump.com from your account email address and describe what you would like deleted. We respond within 30 days.

What gets deleted

Deleting your account takes effect immediately:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, and password are erased from your account
  • Your name, email, phone number, and street address are erased from your homeowner profile
  • Your email, phone number, business address, website, bio, profile photo, logo, portfolio photos, and references are erased from your contractor profile, and your public profile page and search listing are taken down
  • Your legal name, your license and insurance numbers, and the license, insurance, and certification documents you uploaded are deleted
  • The street address, map location, photos, and walkaround videos on jobs you posted are removed, along with the access notes you left for crews
  • Measurement photos on those jobs, and the photos, videos, and notes you sent when a contractor asked to see more, are removed
  • Any of your jobs still open for bids is closed
  • The text of every message you sent is removed. The other person sees that a message was removed
  • Questions and answers you posted on a job listing are removed
  • Your notifications, notification settings, push devices, passkeys, saved properties, and block list are deleted
  • Your email address is replaced with a placeholder in our email delivery and security logs
  • You can no longer sign in

A contractor's business name is kept because it appears on completed jobs and reviews. If money is still held on a job, or a dispute on it is open, that job's address, photos, and messages are kept until it is settled, because they may be what the dispute is decided on. For the same reason, a contractor's license and insurance details and documents are kept while a payout or dispute on one of their jobs is still open. Neither is removed automatically once it settles. Photos a contractor took as proof of finished work stay with the job record. If you never confirmed your email address, we cannot tell that it is yours, so records we hold only under that address, such as email delivery logs and waitlist or support messages, are not removed automatically. Stored payment methods are not removed automatically either. Email privacy@givingstump.com to have any of these deleted. We respond within 30 days.

What is retained, and for how long

A small amount of data is retained after account deletion, only as required by law or to protect the integrity of the marketplace for other users:

  • Financial records (paid transactions and dispute outcomes): retained for 7 years as required by US tax and financial-record-keeping law. These records are anonymized where possible.
  • Reviews you wrote or received, including any photos attached to them: retained and shown without your name so that other homeowners can continue to see accurate contractor history.
  • Safety reports and moderation actions against your account: retained for 3 years to prevent re-registration in cases of policy violations.
  • Do-not-email list: if you unsubscribed, or an email to you bounced, your address stays on that list so that we keep honoring the opt-out or bounce.
  • Background checks: if you agreed to a background check as a contractor, the record of that consent and the result of the check are kept.
  • Server logs and security event records: retained for 90 days in accordance with our security and fraud-prevention practices.
